Negotiating team signs off on important improvements as non-wage bargaining ends
It’s time to talk about wages!
Your negotiating team wrapped up non-wage bargaining when we met with Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) on May 6 and 7. We will begin bargaining for wages when we meet with the employer again on July 23 and 24.
We had two days of productive discussions and signed off on Article 20 – Probationary Period. The improved Article 20 language reduces the probation period to six months—down from the previous period of nine months.
We also signed off on introducing a trial period for members who move to new positions within Red Deer Polytechnic. The trial period allows members to move back to their previously held job if they are unhappy in their new role. Think of it as a job “return policy.”
The fight ahead
Workers at post-secondary institutions across Alberta have faced stubborn resistance and low-ball wage offers from their employers—dictated by the Provincial Bargaining Compensation Office (PBCO). We expect we will have a similar experience when we meet with RDP to begin bargaining for our wages and benefits.
Your solidarity is more important than ever. We must stand together and fight for what we deserve. Worker power is fueled by unity!
