Pay Equality Day is held on June 2 every year. We recognize Pay Equality Day because it is the day that women finally received the same amount of pay their male counterparts were paid the year before. That is nearly 1.5 times the number of hours worked for the same wages.

The Pay and Social Equity Committee will host a Zoom webinar on June 2 at 6:30 pm to discuss this important issue. Join us to hear from subject matter experts from Public Interest Alberta, the Parkland Institute, and AUPE’s Research department.

The Pay and Social Equity Committee is dedicated to fighting for fair wages for all workers. We know that employers create and sustain systemic issues that suppress wages, increase disparity, and oppress workers. While employers and the wealthiest Canadians rake in profits, there is an affordability crisis impacting every worker in Alberta. There are members who are struggling even more due to not being able to meet their daily expenses and working multiple jobs as a result.

AUPE members in the public sector provide essential services to all Albertans. We are there for Albertans when they need us, but we also face these same challenges. Our work is drastically undervalued by our employer. The Pay and Social Equity Committee would like members to understand the key issues that impact this crisis so we can fight for the wages and working conditions we deserve.

We hope to see you at our webinar on June 2.
