Straight to first-contract arbitration

Update for Local 047 Chapter 062, Chartwell Wescott

May 03, 2023

Text only block

Chartwell made us a pathetic offer the last time we met, so your negotiating team applied for first contract assistance, which usually includes a mediation step before going to arbitration. However, Chartwell has contacted us and agreed to skip mediation and go straight to first-contract arbitration.

This means our contract is no longer going to be decided by negotiations. Instead, your team will have to explain why we deserve a fair contract to arbitrator Mia Norrie. The arbitrator will hear our case, as well as our employer’s case, and then decide what our contract should be. Norrie’s decision will be final and binding.

Our meetings with the arbitrator are scheduled for October 12, 13, 31, 2023.

Thank you for your support throughout negotiations, especially now. Your team is confident that our arguments will help the arbitrator decide on a fair first contract. It’s what we deserve!
