Your negotiating team is deeply concerned with the employer’s continuing attempts to negotiate directly with AUPE members and the repetition of inaccurate information.
AUPE’s Government Services Bargaining Committee (GSBC) strongly believes in the importance of upholding collective bargaining processes.
With its APS communication #9, it is disappointing to see the Government of Alberta attempting to undermine our understanding of the settlement accepted by the United Nurses of Alberta (UNA).
Once again, the employer neglected to mention the comprehensive wage grid adjustments that resulted in an average wage increase of 20.5% for nurses, as detailed on their official website.
We will not revisit past discussions, but please refer to GSBC Update #18 for a detailed breakdown of the employer’s offer and the disparities in market adjustments affecting our members.
We are also deeply concerned by the employer’s approach to criticizing our members for exercising their legal right to vote on strike action and to support their negotiating committee.
This is unacceptable, especially when they affect our members’ rights to take leave, vacation and sick time. Our master agreement is in place to protect these rights, and any attempts to undermine them are unacceptable.
We remain committed to constructive bargaining. Even the mediator recommended that both parties avoid public campaigns and focus on returning to the bargaining table. We will provide a detailed analysis of our position, supported by evidence, when we reconvene.
We will share both parties’ positions after we meet the employer again on June 3.
In the meantime, we urge you to stay strong, support your committee, and remain engaged. Our focus is on achieving a fair deal through constructive dialogue at the table.
Thank you for your continued support.
