Today, the employer invited your Government Services Bargaining Committee back to the bargaining table on June 2, 3, 10, 11, 12 and 13.
The employer also confirmed that they are prepared to table a revised proposal on June 2 in response to what your negotiating team proposed the last time the parties met.
It is unfortunate that, once again, the employer decided to communicate directly with you about our next bargaining dates before we could confirm that they would be bringing a revised offer. But now that this has been confirmed, we will be back at the bargaining table, with the assistance of a mediator, on June 2.
Your union remains fully committed to returning to the table and working constructively towards an offer that aligns with the mandate you have given us. Our goal is to secure wage increases that help offset high inflation and bring our settlement in line with those offered to other public sector groups, such as Registered Nurses.
While Alberta’s teachers recently turned down a 15% increase over four years, the government has only offered you 11.5% over the same period, highlighting the disparity in approaches to different union groups.
Together, your continued involvement, resilience, and the strong strike mandate you voted for last week mean that we can go back to the bargaining table with the strength of the membership supporting us. Again, your Government Services Bargaining Committee thanks you for taking such a determined stand with the strike vote.
Concerns about changes to leave approvals
In the meantime, changes have been made to work practices regarding vacation, time off, leaves, and sick time.
If you have been impacted by the employer’s changes to leave approvals, contact the AUPE Member Resource Centre at 1-800-232-7284 to explore the possibility of filing a grievance.
We will continue to keep you informed as more information becomes available. Thank you for your continued strength, solidarity and support!
