There’s still a long way to go to get our first contract

Your negotiating team met with the employer for the first time on Sept. 28 and Oct. 4 and made some progress toward getting your first collective agreement.

We exchanged proposals at this meeting. Our proposals were modelled on agreements that AUPE has at other Chartwell sites where we represent workers, including Heritage Valley/Griesbach in Edmonton and Eau Claire in Calgary.

The employer presented proposals based on agreements it has at two other sites with another union. These contracts are inferior to the AUPE contracts.

Despite beginning from different places, the employer agreed to work from our proposals for non-monetary items.

We were quickly able to agree to definitions of management rights, job performance, dues deduction and respectful workplace.

There is still a lot of work to be done, including discussion of monetary issues that will come later, but we were pleased with the progress made so far.

If you have questions, please contact a member of our negotiating team.
