On May 6 we met with the employer to begin bargaining and renew your collective agreement. Your negotiations team presented a full package of monetary and non-monetary items. The Canterbury Foundation also tabled their ingoing proposals, excluding their position on salaries.
So far, we’ve agreed to retain the current language in the following articles:
- Application
- Management Rights
- Appointments
- Promotions
- Transfers and Vacancies
And we’ve signed six more articles with minor housekeeping changes. These clauses include:
- Workers' Compensation
- Performance Appraisals
- Grievance Procedure
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Resignation
- Registered Retirement Savings Plan
Thank you everyone filling out your bargaining surveys and telling us what you want in your collective agreement. These responses guide our negotiations strategy and help us accurately represent you at the table. This round, as per your feedback, we’re prioritizing more stable scheduling and positions, as well as improved benefits and wages. We’re also seeking more equitable protections across classifications, including expanding shift differentials to dining room servers and securing benefits and better protections for temporary staff.
At our next meeting on Aug. 17 & 18 we will continue bargaining by discussing non-monetary proposals in depth before moving onto monetary items. Future meetings are also planned for Sept. 14 & 15 and again on Oct. 12 & 13.
