Bargaining resumes with positive meetings

Text only block

Your AUPE Negotiating Team met with Whitehorn Village on March 17 and 18 to resume bargaining after a long delay.

Your team advocated for the issues you identified as important in our last bargaining priorities survey. Our conversations with the employer were surprisingly positive and productive. This is a good start, especially since this will be our first collective agreement.

However, we expect an uphill battle once we get to negotiating money. Inflation is rising higher and higher, and many of us are struggling to make ends meet.

Our employer pays us less than what most workers make in our field. Your team is preparing proposals that will raise our compensation, and we will present them at our next bargaining meetings in May.

Our monetary proposals will include improvements to:

  • Shift differentials;
  • Overtime;
  • Leave entitlements;
  • And more.

Bargaining should move much faster now. Thanks to everyone for your patience—your solidarity is important while we bargain for our first contract!

Please contact a member of your negotiating team or AUPE Resource Staff if you have any questions.
