Under attack: Join the telephone townhalls on Bill 9

The law means nothing to this Alberta government. The work you do means nothing to this government.

This government has ripped up legally binding contracts. It has rammed through legislation to prevent an independent arbitrator from hearing the facts and considering a modest increase after two years of wage freezes.

The chair of its hand-picked “Blue Ribbon Panel” has previously called for public-sector wages to be cut by two per cent and for more wage freezes after that.

While attacking your rights and wages, it’s pushing ahead with billions – yes billions – of dollars in tax cuts for profitable mega corporations.

It’s wage cuts for workers, tax cuts for corporations.

We’re angry and we’re fighting back.

All members are being invited to an interactive telephone town hall with AUPE President Guy Smith to hear about Bill 9 (the Alberta government’s Public Sector Wage Arbitration Deferral Act) and the “Blue Ribbon Panel” which will recommend cuts to the province’s budget.

You will hear about the next steps we anticipate the government taking to either freeze or roll back wages by legislation. We will discuss strategies to oppose the direction the government is taking to ignore your rights to collective bargaining, as well as ask survey questions about our next steps.

The telephone town halls will take place on:

June 24: 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.; and

June 26: 12 noon - 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

If we have your phone number, you’ll receive a call from the president at these times. You can update your contact information at aupe.org/update-me.

If you can’t take part in the phone calls, you can still send your feedback by email to info@aupe.org.
