Town of Coaldale: We are planning an unfair labour practice complaint and a rally

The Town of Coaldale’s representatives have sent us another all-staff email, as well as personal emails to each of us about wages. Your AUPE negotiating team wants to provide immediate clarification about these emails.

This is not how bargaining is supposed to go.

Sending us personal emails with individual wage estimates bypasses our negotiating team. It is entirely inappropriate, especially when our employer should be negotiating with the team at the bargaining table. The employer’s actions undermine our legal right to negotiate as a united group.

To be clear, we have politely rejected the employer’s latest offer, “Comprehensive Offer #3,” and no agreement has been reached.

Please do not respond to employer communications about your personal compensation. If you have questions or concerns, speak directly with members of your negotiating team.

Next steps

We are filing another unfair labour practice complaint against the employer at the Alberta Labour Relations Board.  

We understand that the Town of Coaldale’s Chief Administrative Officer may not have experience negotiating with an energized, engaged group of unionized staff, but that does not excuse their actions.

Your team is prepared and willing to get back to the bargaining table for good-faith negotiations.

Show our solidarity – rally planned for July 17

We will hold an information picket on July 17 to show our solidarity and support our negotiating team. Everyone is encouraged to join our rally, so long as you join on your non-work time.
