Shepherd's Care Foundation: Employer presents laughable monetary offer

Update for Local 047 Chapters 011, 014, 018, 019, 027, & 033

Negotiating team both amused and insulted

Text only block

Your negotiating team went into the latest round of bargaining expecting tough conversations and a quick resolution of non-monetary items, which still somehow turned into an extended back and forth on articles that had already been discussed at length. What we were not expecting was a hearty chuckle at the employer's low-ball offer. It was difficult to take the proposal seriously – such a minimal increase for workers that work tirelessly to support and care for residents could only be a joke. Even the employer noted our response.

Unfortunately, it was an actual offer from the employer. One per cent on ratification (the date that the vote on a tentative agreement is completed by members), meaning no retroactive pay is offered, and one per cent on October 1, 2024. Somehow the employer feels that is a reasonable proposal. Humour quickly faded and your negotiating team was not amused. The offer, coupled with some wording changes to the Health Spending Account, is insultingly low. We cannot stand for it.

Your negotiating team will meet on May 4 to draft a response to the employer before the next bargaining sessions on May 15 and 16. In the interim, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to your chapter’s negotiating team member.
