After years of hard work by members of Legal Aid, we were able to get 12 new members in the bargaining unit. Let’s give the 12 new members a warm welcome to AUPE!

It was a long, hard-won battle and we thank you for your show of solidarity. You and all members deserve fair wages, a safe and respectful workplace and benefits – and your union here to make sure you receive them.

As an AUPE member you can enjoy:

  • Job protection
  • More money with better extended health benefits
  • Generous vacation benefits
  • Access to more education courses, conferences and meetings, than non-union employees
  • Learn more here

Many of these benefits are set out by a collective agreement, a legally binding contract between a group of workers (your negotiating team) and an employer that outlines the benefits agreed upon by both parties during the bargaining periods, such as:

  • Guaranteed wages and overtime pay
  • Sick leave and long-term disability insurance
  • Layoff and recall rights
  • Health benefits, dental plans and general insurance
  • Maternity, parental and adoption leave
  • Vacations and working hours

There’s no better time to join AUPE as we will be entering bargaining shortly for a new collective agreement, which means you’ll have the opportunity to share your priorities and advocate for them in the new agreement.

To learn more about the bargaining process and about the union, we are holding virtual Meet and Greet Events for the new members on Monday, Dec. 4 from 2 to 3 pm and Thursday, Dec. 7 from 10 to 11 am. A link to the join the meeting has already been sent to our new members.

Member Services Officer Susan Anderson, your Chapter Chair Tasha Halldorson and fellow Calgary member and Union Steward Janelle Supria will be attending both sessions to ensure our new members have the opportunity to meet with us and ask questions.
