Employer responds to member rally
On November 9, members rallied to fight back against the employer’s proposed rollbacks. We gathered to send a clear message that we will not stand for the employer’s disrespect. The employer heard us, loud and clear.
Carewest filed a complaint with the Labour Relations Board. Apparently, they think we failed to bargain in good faith and made “false statements” about their push for rollbacks, treating us with disrespect, and squeezing us at the bargaining table. According to the employer, our media release was a mischaracterization and dishonest portrayal of their proposals. They threw around terms like “disparaging,” “inflammatory,” “dishonest,” and “misleading.”
In response, we laid out the facts to the Labour Relations Board and clearly demonstrated how our August bargaining update, media release and rally were in no way out of line. From delaying the bargaining process to the employer proposals that are, without a doubt, rollbacks, we stood firm in our interpretation and communication of how Carewest is treating members.
Some may be concerned about a memo that was recently sent out by the employer. We urge all members not to worry as it is just yet another attempt by the employer to negatively impact bargaining. It is important to trust in the process and understand that we are taking the appropriate steps to resolve the situation, with the next step being a resolution conference meeting to address the employer’s complaint that is scheduled for March.
All members should remain focused on negotiations and any future rallies and actions that we may undertake to fight for what we deserve. We will continue to stand by our claims, not waver from our message, and keep working towards our goal of a fair agreement that is competitive in the Calgary labour market.
