“We are pleased the workers at Bethany Riverview have decided to join the AUPE family,” said AUPE Vice-President Bonnie Gostola.
“Organizing their workplace was just the first step. Now, as AUPE members, the journey to make their lives better at work will continue with negotiations for a first collective agreement.”
Bethany Riverview is operated by Bethany Care Society, one of many non-profit seniors-care operators in the province. It is a long-term care facility with 210 beds, over half of which are dedicated for individuals with complex care needs.
The staff at Bethany Riverview have organized to improve their working conditions, which will in turn help them provide quality, life-changing care to the residents who rely on their support daily.
“These Nursing Care workers deserve better working conditions, and Riverview residents deserve to be cared for by a fairly treated, well-supported, united team of workers,” said Gostola.
AUPE is Alberta’s largest union, standing over 95,000 members strong. Over half work in health care, including private for-profit, not-for-profit and public seniors care. Workers at seven Bethany care centres have joined AUPE.
