Bargaining update: CapitalCare, Local 049

Your negotiating team has agreed to extend job protections and suspend collective bargaining with CapitalCare until October 15, 2020.

Like the last time we agreed to extensions, this agreement will ensure all Albertans have access to quality continuing-care during the pandemic.

You are all essential to Alberta’s health care system. These extended job protections will hopefully provide some peace of mind as you continue being the front-line heroes Albertans need, today and tomorrow. 

The delay will also give us time to build capacity, so we can fight for the protections and workplaces we deserve when the pandemic has settled. Mobilizing efforts are already underway, and early in August members made a big show of solidarity when you were asked, in a textbank survey, whether you agreed with the UCP’s plans to privatize CapitalCare.

351 of you responded – 99 per cent opposed the sell-off.

This has been a challenging time for you. Your negotiating team recognizes the sacrifices and hazards you’ve faced, and the lack of support you’ve received from the UCP.

If there is an issue at work or something that may jeopardize your health or wellbeing, please remember to refer to your collective agreement. It is there for you to use, and it is agreed to by both your employer, CapitalCare, and you, the union. Your employer must respect it.
