After much discussion, it is with great sadness that we inform you the AUPE Convention 2020 in October has been cancelled.

AUPE’s Provincial Executive passed the following motion at the April 17, 2020 PE meeting:

MOVED SECONDED and CARRIED that Convention 2020 be cancelled in October.

Rationale behind the decision to cancel is as follows: Due to the pandemic, Locals and Chapters haven’t been able to conduct normal business of AGMs. In October, it is likely that there will still be restrictions on large gatherings, as they are predicting a second wave of the virus. WCB and insurance will not cover members if someone contracts the virus at the event. As well to be mindful of the cancellation fees that could occur if decision was left to a later date.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue to navigate through this disruption to our daily working lives. This was a difficult decision, but a necessary one given the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Further discussions will take place at the June 5, 2020 Provincial Executive meeting on when or if the 2020 convention will take place. Further details will be announced should be they become available.

If you have any questions or concerns about Convention 2020’s cancellation, please contact your Local Provincial Executive member.

In solidarity,

AUPE Provincial Executive
