AHS GSS: AHS seems confused about casual shifts

Your negotiating team met with AHS on November 28 and 29. Bargaining started with constructive conversations, but things went sideways on day two.

We discussed the concept of a new casual position called Benefit Eligible Casual Employee, but the employer is giving us very confusing responses. They are still not clear about how they think casual employees should be able to pick up shifts. Your team is frustrated, but we will continue having these important conversations.

Essential Service Agreement (ESA) Update

We met with the Labour Board on October 7 for a Case Management Meeting about our Essential Services Agreement.

This meeting was about the appeal we filed back in August, when our Umpire decided that AUPE would be in charge of staff scheduling after the first week of a strike or lockout. This is a completely unreasonable demand, which is why your team filed an appeal.

AHS has shared their own argument with the Labour Board Commissioner, which will now review our submissions and make a decision about our appeal. That hearing has been scheduled for December 17. We will update you on the Commissioner’s decision when it is available.
