AgeCare Walden Heights: We’re heading to informal mediation in May

Update for Local 048 Chapter 031, Agecare Walden Heights GSS

Your negotiating team is working hard to secure a fair and equitable agreement for all members of the Walden Heights GSS group.

We will be heading to informal mediation on May 15 and 19. We'll make it clear you deserve the same compensation other AgeCare sites and the average GSS worker in Alberta are receiving.

Your employer makes the claim they "care about you," but their monetary offer was offensive and offered mere penny increases while shareholders reap the benefits on the backs of the workers. We hope a mediator can help move the process forward and bring us closer to an agreement that is fair and just for all parties involved.

We appreciate your ongoing commitment to this process and thank you for your support. We remain committed to working tirelessly on your behalf to secure a fair agreement that reflects your hard work and dedication.

An update on the recent developments regarding the contracting out situation:

We understand it was shocking to hear your employer was planning to contract your jobs out to The Compass Group. This may explain the delays in negotiations and the abysmal monetary offer that was put forward.

However, we have some positive news to share with you.

Your negotiating team has proposed a Letter of Understanding (LOU) to Compass that will maintain all current members' benefits, wages, FTE's, schedules, sick leave, seniority, vacation accrual of the employees in the General Support Services group as outlined in the current collective agreement. We hope to receive a favourable response to the LOU. In our meeting we heard the word "family" many times, this would go a long way in treating you all fairly and protecting your jobs throughout this transition.

We have also requested information regarding when this transition will take place so we can provide you with answers to your questions and concerns regarding this disturbing news.

We want to reassure you that we are doing everything in our power to protect your rights and interests during this process. We will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available.

Thank you for your ongoing support and trust in our negotiating team.
