LETHBRIDGE – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) welcomes approximately 20 new members at the Sunrise Village continuing care facility to the province’s largest union.

The workers joined AUPE following a worksite vote on Sept. 28.

“The general support services and nursing care staff want the better protections and standards that come with joining AUPE, and to ensure more accountability from their employer,” said AUPE Vice-President Bonnie Gostola.

“It is inspiring to see these workers stand together in solidarity to demand better working conditions, and in turn, better quality care for the Albertans who call this facility home,” she said.

Sunrise Village Lethbridge is owned by the Ontario-based Seasons Retirement Communities and is the latest of several facilities run by this employer to join AUPE.

“AUPE is proud to represent these dedicated workers who provide quality care and services to elderly Albertans every day,” Gostola added.
