Strathcona County: Bargaining hits a speedbump but we’re pushing ahead

Bargaining update for Local 118 Chapter 009, Strathcona County

Apr 22, 2025

Text only block

Your negotiating team met with Strathcona County to bargain on April 7.

Unfortunately, the employer’s spokesperson was missing the meeting due to illness, so we focused on organizing a plan of action for the next meeting.

Your team met with the employer’s committee, who did not want to sign off on articles without their spokesperson. The one exception was Article 6 – Union Recognition, which we agreed to sign off on.

Despite this speedbump, your team spent the rest of the meeting walking them through what our language says and what needs fixing:

Article 14 – Discipline
Article 15 – Grievances
Article 23 – Holidays
Article 26 – Liaison Committee

We also proposed creating a Joint Psychological Health and Safety Committee and contracting out language.

Our next meetings are on May 8 and 9, which should be a packed couple of days. Stay tuned by making sure your MyAUPE account info is up to date.

Please contact a member of your negotiating team if you have questions.
