LETHBRIDGE – Pure Canadian Gaming employees in Lethbridge voted to join western Canada’s largest union, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).

AUPE’s newest 155 members voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining the union. The Alberta Labour Relations Board granted AUPE certification on April 17.

They now stand alongside more than 100,000 public and private sector workers fighting for fair wages and better working conditions.

“The staff at PURE Casino Lethbridge know that there is power in a union,” says AUPE Vice-President Curtis Jackson. “We are ready to leverage that power to get the wages and working conditions they deserve.”

A date to begin collective bargaining between PURE Casino and the new AUPE Local 118 Chapter 028 members will be decided soon.

“Employers and government policies in Alberta have been moving in the wrong direction – this is the proof of that,” says Jackson. “With determination and support from our fellow workers, we can stand up to our employers and demand the collective agreements we deserve.”
