Protecting AHS GSS members jobs from privatization
Alberta Health Services is considering contracting out the remaining in-house laundry and linen services.
As a result, AUPE has filed an Unfair Labour Practice complaint as well as an application for a Cease and Desist Order.
Video hearings to resolve this issue have been scheduled for early August.
Contracting this work out would seriously affect over 275 workers at 54 sites across the province. Privatizing laundry and linen services would result in worse outcomes, as staff are forced to cut corners to drive up profit for the private owners.
AUPE members have a strong history of fighting for hospital laundry and linen services. We’re not going to back down from this attack on our livelihoods and the services Albertans depend on now more than ever.
Your AHS GSS negotiating team will keep you and your fellow members up to date when we receive new information.
