Five key sessions for members

Learn about your pension plan and pension benefits available to you at AUPE’s Pension education sessions. AUPE is presenting three session for members whose pension is part of the Public Service Pension Plan Corporation (PSPP) and two for members whose pension is under the Local Authority Pension Plan (LAPP). 

These seminars are designed for all members, but could be of particular interest for those who are in mid-career and those who may be retiring very soon. AUPE members who register for and attend any of these sessions can submit for 1.00 hour time-off (per session attended). 

For those members under the LAPP, the topics for the sessions will include: 

Retirements 

  • How your pension is calculated 
  • Early retirement 
  • Retirement options 
  • Pension projection Calculator 
  • Retirement Application Process 

There will be two Retirement Sessions for LAPP on February 10, 1:15 - 2:45 pm and March 11, 9 to 10:30 am. 

Buybacks 

  • Leaves of Absence (purchased within the deadlines) 
  • Optional Service 
  • Payment Options 

The Buybacks session for LAPP will be held February 24, 9 – 10 am.

For those members under the PSPP, the topics for the sessions will include: 

The Power of Your Pension 

  • The value of your pension plan 
  • How your contributions are calculated and what do they mean 
  • How your pension is calculated 
  • Who are your beneficiaries? 
  • Retirement options 
  • Your Pension Profile 

There are two sessions for this topic: February 16, 10 – 11 am and March 2, 10 - 11 am. 

Preparing for Your Retirement 

  • When you can retire 
  • What you can do to ensure a smooth transition 
  • When you can expect your first pension payment 
  • How your PSPP pension fits into your overall retirement income 
  • How regular and early retirement PSPP pensions are calculated 
  • How PSPP protects your pension from inflation 
  • Your Pension Profile 

The date for this topic is February 16, 2 - 3 p.m. 

Maximize your Retirement Income 

  • How buying and transferring service can increase your pension and may help you retire sooner 
  • What is the cost and process 
  • Types of service 
  • Leaves 
  • Termination 
  • Your Pension Profile 

The date for this topic is March 2, 2 - 3 p.m.
