Your negotiating team is appalled by our employer’s behaviour, just like you must be. Their recent memo is a bad faith tactic to scare us into backing down. Questioning our job security to prevent us from fighting for the wages and working conditions we deserve is a low blow.
We know that Emcon is bidding on a very important contract. They know it gives us the leverage we need to win the wages and contract we deserve. They may say they are looking out for us, but we know they are looking out for their bottom line.
When we met with Emcon on May 1 and 2 to continue bargaining, they tabled an insulting offer for wages and benefits. Blaming Alberta Transportation for this terrible offer is inexcusable. We know that it is the employer that is responsible for fairly paying us, not the government.
The employer’s offer includes:
• 5% over 3 years (down from the 5.1% they offered not long ago)
• Minor increases to boot allowance, cell phone coverage, and meal allowance to justify the reduced wage offer
• Modest shift premiums
• An increase to eye exam benefits but to no other benefits
We are incredibly disappointed with the employer’s offer. They do not come anywhere close to addressing our proposals and are very far from meeting our needs.
Your negotiating team is dedicated to winning the higher wages and benefits we deserve. We know we deserve much, much more.
We expressed our strong disappointment at these latest meetings and have agreed to meet soon to continue negotiating.
