Employer cancels bargaining dates, tables monetary proposal

Although the Employer cancelled scheduled bargaining dates in April and May, they did table their monetary proposal:

Salaries:

  • A rollback of -3% retroactive to April 1, 2020
  • 0% increases for 2021, 2022, and 2023

Reduction of Annual Salary Increments:

For members who are not at the maximum of their current salary range, the employer proposes to reduce the annual salary progression increment within job bands from 3% to 2%.

For example, a SPA 1 staff member hired at $23.01 an hour would take 20 years to reach the max pay for their job ($34.01) with only 2%.

Benefit Plans:

Currently, the employer pays 100% for Extended Health and Dental benefits. They are proposing to change these to 50 employer-paid and 50% employee-paid.

For members with family coverage, based on current premiums, this translates to an additional $135 per month that would be deducted from your paycheques with the costs likely increasing over time.

Additional Reductions to Salary Possible

The employer stated they have identified maximum salary rates for several positions as being “over-market” and may propose salary reductions for specific positions. They have not yet disclosed which positions and how much of a reduction they are seeking.

Bargaining Session Summary:

We were able to sign off on three items: 1) we reached agreement on which items were not being opened by either party; 2) we agreed that notice given by either party in the course of business can be in the form of an email; and 3) we agreed on the deletion of the Hotel Alma Letter Of Understanding.
