Tentative agreement ratified

Your bargaining team is pleased to report that on Friday, Jan. 17 the majority of you voted in favour of the the tentative agreement, which will now form our first collective agreement.

From day one of negotiations you made it clear to PWL what you wanted: a fair and equitable workplace. In just under two months, you achieved this.

The agreement we secured includes a number of provisions in-line with other PWL sites, where our fellow members worked hard to make their working conditions, and those of all private continuing care staff in the province, better:

  • Workload language (in-line with PWL Slave Lake)
  • Respect in the Workplace provisions (in-line with PWL Heritage House)
  • Increases in shift differentials and weekend premiums (in-line with PWL Slave Lake)
  • The inclusion of language related to non-bargaining employees to the Letter of Understanding – Staffing and Employment Agencies that ensures our members are given the first chance to fill a vacant shift, and once all of these options are exhausted a supervisor or manager will fill the shift before an outside agency is hired to do so.
  • The same Employee Benefits Article and Schedule “B” Benefits, including a $300 Health Spending Account, as Points West Living Slave Lake.

Now that we have our rights in writing, we can exercise our strength on the floor and continue building capacity, so when we come back to the table we can keep fighting for an optimal workplace and a better future for Alberta's continuing care industry.
