What we want

Here is a list of outstanding articles that we want to improve:

Article 8 – Time off for Union Business: we want time off for elected, full-time positions;

Article 15 – Shift and Weekend Premiums: we want a $0.50 per hour increase;

Article 24 – Employee Benefits: we want to increase dental coverage from $1000 per year to $2000 per year for basic and $3000 per year for major coverage. We also want $3000 for lifetime orthodontal coverage;

Article 25 – Annual Vacation: we want a one-time increase of 5 vacation days after 25 years of employment;

Article 32 – Education Leave: we want to increase your Tuition Waiver from $200 to $400;

Article 47 – Staff Reduction: we want to increase severance from 1.5 weeks per year to 2 weeks per year;

We have also introduced new articles, including:

• Inclusions and Exclusions

• Contracting Out

• Salaries

• Student Salaries

The employer made a 3 year offer which included a $150 increase to your Health Spending Account, 0% wage increases, a wage reopener in the final year, and slight increases to student salaries. We were not satisfied with this offer and rejected it.

Next steps: Essential Services Agreement and Mediation

We told the employer that we plan to apply for formal mediation as soon as our Essential Services Agreement (ESA) is completed.

An ESA is negotiated by both AUPE and the employer. ESAs decide the minimum level of services that must keep going during job action, like a strike or a lockout. Getting an ESA is also the first step towards formal, binding mediation.

As a result, no further meetings have been scheduled.
