Covenant Health Nursing Care members reject offer to delay bargaining

Text only block

Your negotiating team has rejected the employer’s offer to delay bargaining until March 31, 2021. We want to get back to the bargaining table to address the issues that are impacting you in the workplace each and every day.

You were working short even before the pandemic and, with the one-worksite public health order and so many staff having to go into isolation, COVID-19 has just made matters worse.

The employer’s request to extend the delay in bargaining is really just a tactic to allow them to avoid dealing with these pressing issues. While that may serve their interests, it doesn’t serve yours.

We are waiting to hear from the employer about proposed dates to resume negotiations.

Keep in mind that the provisions in your collective agreement remain in full force while we bargain a new agreement. While the employer has signaled that it will be seeking cuts in wages, benefits and pensions, your negotiating team will be fighting hard on your behalf to stop them.

You’ve shown up for Albertans these past difficult months, just as you always have. You deserve a collective agreement that reflects the value you have proven to provide to our health care system. Albertans recognize that and it’s time for the employer to come to the table and recognize it, too.

The Covenant Health General Support Services negotiating team has decided to accept the employer’s offer to extend the delay in bargaining. With their jobs under more immediate threat, we understand that decision.

If you have any questions about your collective agreement or experiencing a problem at work, please reach out to a worksite steward. You can also contact your Membership Services Officer by calling AUPE’s Member Resource Centre at 1-800-232-7284.

If you have questions about bargaining, please contact a member of your negotiating team or AUPE resource staff.
