Bargaining finally begins
Bargaining has finally begun after the employer caused delays by cancelling the meetings we had scheduled for April 8 - 9 & May 13-14 for nursing care, and April 15 - 16 & May 27 - 28 for GSS.
During that long pause, we welcomed new members to AUPE, when the Labour Relations Board granted administrative (schedulers and payroll) staff working in the corporate office a bargaining certificate.
We met with the Employer last month – at the GSS table on September 8 and 28, and at the ANC table on September 29 and 30. So far bargaining is off to a rather ominous and troubling start, mostly because the Employer’s in-going proposals included several significant rollbacks:
- Restricting grievances until a safe and respectful workplace is complete;
- Mandatory overtime;
- Limiting medical, dental etc. appointments to a maximum of 3 hours sick leave pay;
- Mandatory return to work from vacation if employer assesses recognized critical unforeseen emergency.
For GSS only:
- One or more call backs in the same period considered one call back for determining call back pay.
Additionally the Employer did not table a complete proposal. The Employer did not table any monetary or compensation proposals except for selective monetary rollbacks.
We will schedule additional dates to continue with collective bargaining and inform you when they’re set. We also have some more information events planned. Please stay tuned to our updates for more information.
