Bargaining Update: AHS General Support Services and AHS Nursing Care

Your AUPE General Support Services and Nursing Care negotiating teams have agreed to extend job protections and suspend collective bargaining with Alberta Health Services until October 15, 2020.

Like the last time we agreed to extensions, this agreement was made to ensure all Albertans have access to quality health care during the ongoing pandemic.

AUPE Nursing Care and General Support Services members are an essential part of Alberta’s health care system. These extended job protections will hopefully provide some peace of mind as you continue being the front-line heroes Albertans need during this crisis.

Standing up for laundry workers

Alberta Health Services is considering contracting out the remaining in-house laundry and linen services. As a result, AUPE filed an Unfair Labour Practice complaint as well as an application for a Cease and Desist Order.

We had a hearing with the Alberta Labour Relations Board on this issue on August 5 and 6. We are now waiting for the Board’s decision, which should come by the end of August. Your teams will share this information with you when we receive it.

Remember your Collective Agreement

Your teams know this is a challenging time for you, and we recognize the sacrifices and potential hazards you may face while you work to provide health care to all Albertans.

If there is an issue at work or something that may jeopardize your health or wellbeing, please remember to refer to your collective agreement. It is there for you to use and it is agreed to by both your employer, AHS, and you, the union. Your employer must respect it.
