Important survey coming to nursing-care members; please complete and return
All AUPE nursing care members employed by Carewest will soon be receiving an important survey in their mailboxes.
We need your feedback to address an issue that has arisen in bargaining for a new collective agreement with the employer.
Under the current collective agreement, seniority is being applied in different ways in different situations.
Your negotiating team believes that the seniority language in the collective agreement must be consistent.
Seniority is important to your working conditions because it is used in a number of ways, including:
• When making promotions and transfers or filling vacancies;
• When deciding who has preference when choosing vacation dates;
• When selecting shift schedules or rotation;
• When distributing extra shifts; and
• When determining who gets laid off and recalled.
When you receive the survey in the mail, we need you to choose which way of measuring seniority works best for you:
• Commencement of employment organization wide with Carewest.
• Commencement of employment at a particular facility.
• Commencement of employment in a department.
• Commencement of employment by classification.
• Other.
In order to get a mandate to negotiate something that works for you, we need as many of you as possible to complete and return the survey. It’s simple, it’s quick and a postage-paid and self-addressed envelope will be included.
If you do not receive the survey by the end of May, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
A membership meeting will be held to discuss this issue on June 8. Your negotiating team will be available to answer questions.
Members will be able to attend in person at a time convenient to them or online, via Zoom.
