SUNDRE – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) welcomes approximately 90 new members at Mountain View Seniors’ Housing Supportive Living after they voted to join the province’s largest union on Aug. 10.
“We’re pleased Mountain View seniors care staff chose to join AUPE. We’re ready to work with them to negotiate a fair first collective agreement with the employer that values them for the important work they do for seniors in the Sundre community every day,” said AUPE Vice-President Glen Scott.
AUPE now represents all employees at the 40-bed worksite, including nursing care staff, health-care aides, recreation staff, and general support services staff.
Scott added a fair agreement is not only good for staff, but for residents as well.
“An equitable contract helps secure safe and quality care by ensuring staff are attracted to and retained at the worksite,” he said. “We’ve seen this time and again at a number of seniors care facilities we represent, and we’ll be pushing for that kind of safeguarding for seniors at Mountain View as well.”
AUPE is Alberta’s largest union with more than 90,000 members province-wide. More than half work in public, private and non-profit health care.
