Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD), Red Deer College (RDC) and Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) are in the process of transitioning to degree-granting universities. The move recognizes the importance of these institutions to their communities and will allow more Alberta students to pursue their educational and career goals closer to home.
AUPE congratulates these future universities on their success and recognizes in particular the contributions of our members whose dedicated service is a key part of the functioning of these facilities.
The transitions from colleges to universities will require changes that the government of Alberta plans to introduce in the coming months. AUPE will continue to monitor this process, and we are committed to keeping members informed.
The shift from college to university should not affect the employment or union representation of AUPE members at these institutions. As always, AUPE members at ACAD, RDC and GPRC can contact their union with any questions or concerns they may have by calling the Member Resource Centre at 1-800-232-7284.
AUPE represents over 500 support staff at the three institutions, as well as over 10,000 workers in colleges and universities throughout the province.
Post-secondary support workers are an indispensible part of the learning environment. They act as student advisors, provide technical and other support, maintain campus buildings and grounds, and administer the operations of various departments.
