Tentative Agreement Reached

Your bargaining team is pleased to report we’ve come to a tentative agreement with the employer. The agreement runs from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2020. If we accept, we’ll be compensated with bonus pay for past hours worked and benefit from a number of other protections that will carry us into 2020.

The contract includes a one-per-cent wage increase effective April 1, 2019 as well as a 1.5-per-cent signing bonus, for staff employed on the date of the memorandum of settlement, based on all paid hours from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019. You’ll receive this signing bonus within 60 days of the date of ratification. If both parties ratify, we will also be able to bank Overtime starting Jan. 1, 2020.

The contract features an improved harassment article to better protect our mental and physical health, stronger job protection, new language for pick-up shifts and how they’re distributed, and the new employment standards for leaves and named holidays.

Thank you for standing behind each other, your bargaining team, and your ideas for improvements to our worksite that will support everyone. You are on the frontlines of seniors care; you know what your fellow workers and residents need.

Voting for the proposed contract will happen March 21.
