Bargaining Continues

Your bargaining team met with the employer again for two productive days of bargaining on July 24 and 25, at the end of which we signed off on three articles:

• Union Recognition and Rights
• Discipline and Dismissal
• Employer-Union Relations

This last item holds both the employer and our members to the same standard: to exercise our respective rights “in good faith and in a fair and reasonable manner.”

We also developed clearer contract language to establish what behaviour is cause for discipline versus what behaviour would be better responded to with training or policy review.

We agreed punishable behaviours are ones where:
(a) “The Employee knows, or could reasonably be expected to know, what is required,” but behaves differently.
(b) “The Employee is capable of carrying out what is required,” but behaves differently.
(c) “The Team Member performs in a manner other than as required.”

Item© is an amendment and will hold employees responsible for situations where they’ve acted carelessly or neglectfully.

While we have not set future bargaining dates, we’re hopeful our meetings will continue on a positive note.

We will update you as soon as we can on any progress or changes at the table. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact one of us.
