Bargaining reaches crossroads, meeting called

After the employer cancelled our Nov. 2 and 3 meetings, it became clear that we are at a crossroads in bargaining and our members must meet to determine our next steps.

While we plan on reconvening bargaining with the employer Dec. 21, rescheduling, as you know, has required a lot of patience and flexibility on the part of our union.

The employer’s chief spokesperson was unable to meet Nov. 8-30, Dec. 2-7, Dec. 12-14, and continues to be unavailable in mid-January, 2018 for 4-6 weeks. On top of this, their bargaining representative has to fly in from Langley, BC for bargaining meetings.

Chantelle Management governs our worksite from behind closed doors in an office located outside the province, and it shows as they’ve always been detached from and uninterested in our working conditions and needs. In their last proposal, they tabled several rollbacks while maintaining the status quo on other items.

The only monetary item they’ve tabled since May 30 is an unacceptable 1.25 percent wage increase over three years (2017-2020) with a wage reopener and binding arbitration in year 3.

These proposals, along with the employer’s stalls in bargaining, undermine your value; don’t let them undermine your resolve. Your bargaining committee stands with you, every step of the way, and we’re here to ensure your voice is heard.

None of us can do this alone. We need you all to join us for an important bargaining meeting Thursday, Nov. 16 (see info below) and tell us how you want to proceed with bargaining.

Thursday, Nov. 16
1:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Nana’s Pizzeria and Family Restaurant:
