BARGAINING BEGINS

Your bargaining committee met with the employer on Sept. 25 to exchange proposals.

The employer has unfortunately presented a package that includes several unacceptable proposals, including the elimination of the health spending account; a reduction in hours of work, overtime and parental leave to the minimum provincial standards; the deletion of rights of term employees; an erosion of union rights and representation; the removal of time off for union business with pay, including Steward representation; the removal of just cause for any discipline other than termination; and the introduction of a permanent record on the files of disciplined employees.

Your committee presented a package of priorities that we believe are reasonable and justifiable and will continue in that direction. We plan to host two information sessions for members in October; please stay tuned for further details about these sessions.

Your bargaining committee is also disappointed to note that the employer is demonstrating little flexibility when it comes to scheduling bargaining dates. As a result, our next bargaining meeting with the employer is scheduled for Dec. 4, 2017.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of your bargaining committee.
