FILING FOR MEDIATION

On Oct. 3, your bargaining committee met with the employer, who tabled offers on all outstanding items. While we have continued to be clear about members’ needs and expectations, the employer continues to disregard them.

The employer’s proposal included zero salary increases over a two-year term and small improvements to our 2018 health benefit cost share arrangement, health spending account and retirement savings plan.

Legal Aid continues to claim these monetary shortcomings are a consequence of limited funds, yet they remain unmotivated to explore other ways to improve the workplace as well.

Their offers and inaction are unacceptable, and in response our union will be filing for mediation.

You deserve a collective agreement that reflects your value for the important work you do every day for many vulnerable Albertans.

While your bargaining committee brings in a third party in an attempt to move negotiations forward, we encourage you to remind each other of the intrinsic role each of you plays in our workplace and in our union; your collective strength drives both.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact a member of your bargaining team.
