Your bargaining committee is pleased to announce our union and the employer reached a tentative agreement yesterday morning.

Your onsite ratification vote is scheduled for Jan. 19. Please stay tuned and check regularly in the coming days; your bargaining committee wants to keep you informed, so you can secure the protections and compensation you deserve.

You should be proud of the support you’ve shown each other and, by extension, all Alberta health care workers, over the course of bargaining. It’s encouraging to see a collective agreement come one step closer to truly recognizing the indispensable physical and emotional labour you do everyday.

Some of the most noteworthy gains you’ve achieved in the tentative agreement, effective Oct.1, 2017 and ending Sept. 30, 2019, include:

  • A 1.5-per cent salary increase across all classifications effective Oct. 1, 2017 and Oct. 1, 2018.
  • An additional step to the salary range for prep cooks.
  • An increase to the health benefit spending account to $400 per year.
  • Casual and temporary employee pay (in lieu of stat holidays) increased to five per cent.
  • Changes to the Respect in the Workplace article that are the first of their kind and provide a detailed complaint process as well as access to the Grievance Procedure.

Other features include Leave of Absence (LOA) changes in line with the new Alberta Employment Standards, additional information on employees in the Union Membership and Payment of Dues article, and an increase to $300 for LPN registration fees.
