Your bargaining team met with the employer May 23 and 24 in Edmonton to continue bargaining your next collective agreement.

Your committee understands the importance of keeping you engaged and informed throughout the negotiation process. There is not a significant amount of news since the last update but we felt it would be helpful to provide members with an update regardless.

We’ve met with the employer five times since our last bargaining update to you. Progress has slowed from both parties. Some of this can be contributed to the complexity of some of the issues being discussed such as the grievance procedure, classifications and workload. The remainder of issues can be contributed to the outdated way of thinking being presented at the table by the employer. We are seeing the same resistance regarding workplace control issues.

We reached agreement on changes to:

  • Article 50, Harassment & Discrimination, to make the article more detailed and robust.
  • Article 48, which deals with the printing and distribution of the Collective Agreement.

In addition to these two articles from the Master Agreement, we signed off a large portion of articles and letters of understanding contained in the subsidiary agreements, with some minor housekeeping changes regarding dates and gender neutrality.
