BARGAINING CONTINUES

Your bargaining committee met with the employer Sept. 20 and 21 in Edmonton to continue bargaining for your next collective agreement.

While the parties agreed at the beginning of bargaining to conclude all non-monetary items before moving on to monetary proposals, the employer has now changed course and presented its monetary package.

The employer presented a two-year deal, expiring March 31, 2019, that proposes to renew all monetary items as they currently exist. That means a two-year deal with zero-per-cent wage increases in each year.

Despite this, we continued to make gradual progress in our negotiations with the employer for non-monetary items. An additional four articles were signed off, which include language on the probationary period, appointments and transfers, and Workers’ Compensation.

Your bargaining committee is evaluating its next steps and determining how to respond to the employer’s proposal. Future bargaining dates have been scheduled for Oct. 11 and 12, and Oct. 23 and 24.

As always, if you have any concerns, questions or comments, please contact a member of your bargaining committee. We remain committed to sharing regular updates with you throughout the collective bargaining process.
