AUPE welcomes new members from Wentworth Manor

CALGARY – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) welcomes its newest nursing care members at Wentworth Manor continuing care facility to the province’s largest union.

“The persistence these workers have shown throughout the organizing process is a testament to the hard work they do every day,” said Bonnie Gostola, Vice-President of AUPE and representative for the Calgary region.

On Jan. 19, a certification vote was held for the 150 nursing care staff. On Jan. 31, the votes were counted and certification was granted to the worksite.

Wentworth Manor is one of four seniors care facilities in Alberta operated by the Brenda Strafford Foundation. AUPE also represents the nursing care staff at the Foundation’s Clifton Manor.

“Every day, nursing staff at Wentworth Manor care for senior Albertans who need it the most. Now, through their strength and solidarity, they will come together to get a collective agreement that protects them and values their worth as they continue to provide quality care to Calgary seniors,” added Gostola.

AUPE represents more than 93,000 working Albertans; over half work in health care, including seniors care.
