Alberta Union of Provincial Employees President Guy Smith offered condolences on behalf of the union upon hearing of the passing of sister Sharon MacLean.

“Our thoughts are with Sharon’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.

“Sharon was a long-time AUPE activist in her capacity as Vice-Chair of Local 043 and Chair of Local 043, Chapter 08.

“She was also a regular face at Conventions and Labour School and was a strong advocate for Occupational Health and Safety. It was this advocacy that saw her receive the Rolyn Sumlak award in 2013, which recognizes members who have gone above and beyond in OHS activism at the worksite.
