AUPE’s Pension Committee and Alberta Pension Services Corporation are bringing pension education to AUPE members in Lethbridge, Calgary, and Edmonton this fall in the first of a series of pension seminars planned.

“Learning about your pension, especially if you are well before retirement age, is extremely important,” said AUPE executive secretary-treasurer Jason Heistad, who chairs the committee. “That’s why we’re pleased to be able to offer these sessions for our members, in conjunction with APSC.”

APSC administers both the Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP) and the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), both of which help secure many AUPE members for their retirement. The two-hour presentation will cover topics like how pensions are calculated, early retirement provisions, retirement options, buy back service, and others.

Pension seminars will be held at AUPE offices in Lethbridge on Sept. 15, Calgary on Sept. 28, and Edmonton on Nov. 3. Members must RSVP for the appropriate seminar, as morning sessions in each location will be specific to PSPP and afternoon sessions will be specific to LAPP. Members will be granted time off for union business — up to four hours total including travel time — to attend the session. Only members from those servicing areas can sign up for the sessions; more sessions are planned in other servicing areas for 2017.

To RSVP and request time off, please fill out the form here.

NOTE: Please be advised that for the Calgary sessions, there will be no elevator access to the second floor of the building where the Calgary Regional Office is located. If you require elevator access, please stay tuned for additional pension sessions in 2017.
