The big issues continue to be monetary items as well as new Articles addressing contracting out, contracting in, and wage equity. The employer is still unwilling to address these issues seriously.
We put forward a three-year proposal which included a $500 lump sum in year one, raising your salaries to parity with the rest of GPRC employees in year two, increasing Health Spending to $700 and converting it into a Flex Spending Account, as well as a wage reopener in year three.
The employer seemed to like the idea of a $700 Flex Spending Account, but ultimately countered our proposal and offered 0% wage increases for each year. We did not agree to this, and advised the employer that we will apply for mediation once the Essential Services Agreement is completed.
Your bargaining committee is dedicated to reaching wage parity with our fellow workers at Grande Prairie Regional College. We are not worth less than them, and they should not be brought down – instead, we want to see all of us rise up in solidarity.
