Provincial Executive Meeting Summaries
October 23-26, 2002

The Provincial Executive meeting was held on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at the Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre followed by Convention which concluded on Saturday, October 26, 2002 at which time PE adjourned.

A motion to support the Annual Poppy Fund Campaign and purchase wreaths for the Regional Offices and Headquarters to be placed at each respective Cenotaph was adopted. As well a number of Financial Policies were amended.

A motion dealing with Imprest Accounts was referred to the Finance Committee for further discussion and a number of financial policies were amended. As well, the St. Paul Regional Office lease was renewed for another two years.

The Provincial Executive agreed to lease for two years office space at the most reasonable cost in the vicinity of the University of Alberta Hospital which would service members of the University of Alberta Hospital, Alberta Cancer Board, Neil Crawford Centre and other south side offices.

Vice-Presidents Hoffman and Smith spoke on the seminar they attended sponsored by the ATA and AFL "Promoting the Public Interest". This is the beginning step in establishing a formal network that would speak out on all issues of public services - maintaining privatization issues, provide unified voice and direction for all matters concerning public interest.

An emergency Resolution was submitted on behalf of Local 003 arising from recent indications from government that the Peace River Correctional Centre would be closed. The Committee on Political Action will present this Resolution.

The Chair of the Members' Benefits Committee, advised the Committee had reviewed investment procedures and policies and was putting the PE on notice that they will have formal recommendations to change policy at the December 7th meeting.

The new PE members were advised that the PE meeting would recess as the Provincial Executive sits through the entire Convention and will be called upon if anything arises and at the end of Convention will meet to adjourn.

The Provincial Executive adjourned on Saturday, October 26, 2002.
