Provincial Executive Meeting Summaries
November 4-7, 1999

The meeting commenced at 9:00 P.M. at the Crowne Plaza/Chateau Lacombe. President MacLennan called the meeting to order.

The President advised that the next National Union's Convention will be held in Calgary, Alberta.

Some questions arose with respect to a Resolution being submitted to Convention dealing with the AFL and whether Locals or Headquarters would pay if proceeding Local by Local. Headquarters would still continue to pay.

A late Resolution dealing with a name change by the Calgary Area Council was submitted and will be forwarded to Convention.

The President spoke on the current status with the Guild and AUPE being charged with raiding CUPE Locals as the Guild is signing up CUPE members. The President advised that the merger does not take effect until November 19, 1999 and therefore AUPE not involved in any raiding.

A cost study is to be conducted on the feasibility of holding future PE meetings across the province rather than at Headquarters year round.

An emergency Resolution is being forwarded to Convention dealing with Dr. West's announcement that administrative support services would be reduced.

The meeting recessed at 9:30 PM and reconvened on November 5, 1999 to deal with an emergency Resolution being submitted by Local 001 dealing with the Shared Services Centre proposed by Dr. West. A second emergency Resolution submitted by NUPGE with respect to striking jail guards at Newfoundland Association of Public Employees (NAPE).

The meeting recessed and reconvened on November 7, 1999 dealing with an issue that arose on Convention floor with respect to moving banking services to the Alberta Treasury Branches.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30 PM on November 7, 1999 and the next meeting is to be held at 9:00 AM in the Grant Notley Boardroom, Headquarters on January 22, 2000.
