Provincial Executive Meeting Summaries
Saturday, March 13, 1999
President MacLennan called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m. Regular
roll call was taken and new PE members, alternates and observers were
welcomed.
Union Representative, Pam Kirkwood, provided a power point presentation
with respect to the bargaining process faced by our members under both
the Labour Relations Code and the Public Service Employee Relations Act.
Executive Secretary-Treasurer Mardell and A/Executive Assistant
Operations, K. Derksen provided a presentation on the feasibility of relocating
the Headquarters office to a downtown location. Much discussion ensued
and it was felt that each Provincial Executive member needed time to review
the documentation which was handed out and report back to their membership.
The following is a list of motions (not all were carried);
o That AUPE Headquarters cover the courier cost of emergency cheques
from the Members' Benefits Committee.
CARRIED
This was a request from the Auditors to determine who is responsible
for these costs.
o That extra funds be placed into the Health and Safety Budget for the
1999-2000 budget year.
This funding would be to cover the costs of members obtaining documentation
required for medical reviews. This motion was referred back to the Finance
Committee to further review.
o To recommend to the Finance Committee that a policy be written clearly
defining single v. multi-site locals with a list of these sites being
attached to this policy.
CARRIED
A new Policy was adopted by the Provincial Executive dealing with Health
and Safety entitled 'Appointment of Alberta Union of Provincial Employees
Members to the Joint Union/Government Health and Safety Committee'.
o That the Legislative Committee develop criteria by which the Executive
Committee may establish, merge, dissolve Locals, Chapters and Area Councils
and this criteria be endorsed by the Provincial Executive.
CARRIED
o That the Provincial Executive support any job action taken by Local
057/016 necessty to support collective bargaining by members at St. Mary's
Hospital.
CARRIED
At the time of writing, this matter has been resolved as the members
have reached a Tentative Agreement.
The next Provincial Executive meeting will be held on April 24, 1999.
