Provincial Executive Meeting Summaries
June 22, 2002

The Provincial Executive meeting was held on Saturday, June 22, 2002 in Lethbridge, Alberta with President MacLennan in the Chair.

The Honourable Clint Dunford, MLA for Lethbridge West and Minister of Human Resources and Employment dropped in at the meeting and spoke briefly on upcoming issues including the Labour Code as well as workplace health and safety and answered questions from members of PE.

The Provincial Executive agreed to lease for two years office space at the most reasonable cost in the vicinity of the University of Alberta Hospital which would service members of the University of Alberta Hospital, Alberta Cancer Board, Neil Crawford Centre and other south side offices.

A number of financial policies were amended.

K. Nicol, Leader of the Alberta Liberal Party, addressed PE and answered questions from members as well as welcoming them to Lethbridge.

Executive Secretary-Treasurer Mardell on behalf of the the Finance Committee presented the budget. Questions and answers followed.

A mandate was established for the Ad Hoc Pay Equity Committee.

The Membership Services’ Committee brought forward a motion which the Provincial Executive endorsed regarding Bell Mobility's exclusive discount program with AUPE members, and that this program be reviewed after it has been in place for one year.

A Resolution was forwarded to Convention by the Ad Hoc WCB/LTDI Committee amending Article 4.05 (e) of the Constitution.

A concern was noted with respect to the new Health Care Locals and the need for procedures on honorariums, etc. As well, there was discussion regarding a nursing study that was recently released.
It was noted that the next PE meeting should be two days as a number of Committees have items to bring back; a discussion re the CLC/NUPGE should occur and the auditor will be in attendance. As travel, etc. will necessitate extra time it was felt this meeting should be held in Edmonton.
