Provincial Executive Meeting Summaries
June 16, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 9:08 a.m. with President MacLennan in the Chair.

President MacLennan advised that J. Clancy, President and L. Brown, Secretary-Treasurer, National Union of Public and General Employees, were in attendance. Both representatives from NUPGE spoke on suspending AUPE from NUPGE. Much discussion ensued and a question and answer session followed. Brother Clancy spoke on the motion that was passed at the NUPGE board meeting on March 9th and dealt with at the PE meeting on March 10th.

The PE representative from Local 002 advised she had an issue with respect to an Appeal as per Articles 10.03 and 13.09(p) of the Constitution on behalf of Local 002, Chapter 012 which she wished to present at this time. It was noted that an appeal has to be filed under Article 10.01 and 10.02 before the Provincial Executive deals with it under Article 10.03. As no appeal has been received in which the President could render a decision, the Motion was ruled out of order. The Chair was CHALLENGED. The President responded that he would give the Provincial Executive a decision to be dealt with after a formal appeal had been filed as per AUPE's Constitution. The Chair was SUSTAINED and the motion ruled out of order.

Some motions under Finance were as follows:

MOTION: That effective July 1, 2001 Rebates to Locals Policy 5-2 be adjusted to reflect a 4% increase on Multi-Site and One-Site Locals.

MOTION: That AUPE renew the Calgary Regional Office lease for one more year.

MOTION: That the AUPE Headquarter's mailroom be renovated.

MOTION: To forward to the 25th Annual Convention the proposed 2001-2002 budget (as amended).
The Audit Task Force contains a vacancy due to the departure of a former PE member from Local 057. J. Spink, Local 042 volunteered to sit as a member on the Audit Task Force.
Some additional motions which were carried are:
MOTION: That Larry Connell be granted life membership in AUPE.
MOTION: To move the next Provincial Executive Meeting to Friday, September 14, 2001 at AUPE Headquarters.
